Due to a system error on the part of AVIS, I was charged nearly double the amount for my rental. At the time of writing, Avis has shown no intention to correct this gross over charge.

I was afraid to rent a car for our trip to Sweden after reading so many horror stories, but I was pleasantly surprised by our experience! We were traveling from the US, so I was nervous about getting international fees charged to my card. I did not get any though, which I assume is because AVIS is an American company. I pre-paid over the phone about a month in advance (picked up the car on 6/20). Getting to AVIS from Central Station was very convenient, once we figured out what bus to get on. We hopped on the green line (Grön X) and I think it was the first stop. It was about a block walk from there. Service was great. Our total for Wed-Mon (5 full 24hr days) was 268.30 for a 5spd VW Golf. Not bad considering a one way rental was almost as much (we were going north about 3 hours)! I scoured the internet for other rental agencies too, but decided on AVIS. Sixt was making me nervous with its negative reviews. Word to the wise: when you get gas, you will get a temporary hold on your card. It depends on the gas station and bank (my bank said it might take up to a few days), but ours was a 150 hold that took a day to clear. I thought it would be smart to fill up most of the way outside the city to get a lower price and then fill up all the way in Gothenburg, but it turned out to be a horrible choice because 300 of our international checking was out of reach for about 24 hours, and it was the last day of our trip. Not a commonly talked about concept, so be careful!
Everything went fine until I need Avis to return the money blocked for the insurance. Not even answering the calls.
Excellent service. Just, as with all car - hire companies get a third party insurance instead of paying the overpriced from there Guys.

Flera gånger har jag hyrt bil trots betalningsanmärkning och den gången jag verkligen behövde hyra, hyrde på nätet men blev nekad när jag skulle hämta bilen. De borde inte gå igenom på nätet
