I thoroughly enjoyed the first two hours of my visit to Vaxholm. Stumbled on the strömming trail in the port and did the yellow 5 km walking trail. Picturesque houses, beautiful views on water and lots of air. Then I went to the tourist information office to buy a postcard and get some info but left disappointed. It was March and I was there on a weekday, so safe to say, there weren’t many other tourists around. The woman behind the counter was absorbed in her computer. When I started asking some questions, she was rude. I got the impression that I was bothering her and whatever she was doing in the computer was more important than my questions. This was the worst customer service experience I’ve had during my 5 years in Sweden. I’m wondering whether she had been more polite if I had spoken in English, not in my broken Swedish with a heavy foreign accent. She was impatient and not informative at all. I was totally discouraged from asking all the questions I had in my head. Was thinking of asking about some nature trails near Vaxholm to possibly come back in the summer and try and hike but I guess I will have to resort to google now. I didn’t buy the postcard from her but from a tourist shop next to the information centre. The person there was much more helpful and nicely gave me the directions to the post box. I also had much better service at the local Coop. I have worked with tourists in the past and I know they can ask inane questions sometimes. But it’s only common courtesy to give informative answers even to questions you consider inane if you work at a tourist information centre. I give Vaxholm’s tourist information centre 2 stars. 1 star is for the bad customer service and 1 star for the free map. My review is very subjective, I’m sure on a different day my score would have been different and most likely I wouldn’t even have written the review. Only wrote this to share my bad experience.

A bit simple, and lack of activity in late Aug. One may not aware the nice place is further into residential area, beyond those ships, shops and car parks. there is small beach with slope made of big rocks, and clear water to swim, where you can also taste water, not really salty!

Petite ile superbe avec ces jolies maisons. Cette ambiance calme... a voir sans la foule.
