Absolutely fantastic exhibits Loved the Nationalmuseum paintings The Skansen-like free open air museum is very well worth a visit by itself

One of the best out- and indoor local heritage museums in Sweden. It has something for everyone and is pure heaven for kids as they are allowed to take part in the exhibitions. The museum shop is well equipped with both fun and high quality products. During winter, except for holidays, the cottages in outdoor environment are closed, but there are beautiful paths to walk in the area especially when a lot of snow.

Jamtli hotel is very clean and hosts are very welcoming to everyone. There is a museum nearby if you are interested in history and a lot of guided activities for children as well. Nice mountains closeby if you want to go rollerskying or running

Definitely a place to spend time in Ostersund if you are in the area. the best time to go is definitely between 22 Jun and 18 august (2019 dates). Why? Because there are paid actors innthe open air museum that will interact with you significantly and make the experience all the better! Yes its a bit more expensive at 290sek vs 100 sek, but kids are free, and the actors really make it. The only thing is that although english is spoken, not all the actors necessarily can express themselves as fliently and as cofidently as in Swedish, so im sure the Swedes get a lot more out of it. The other indoor exhibits are your regular museum type, with little English. English Audio guides at the time of entry for us were not working. English guided tour is at 2pm. There are lot of interactive pieces in the house holds - you can try clothes on, listen to old vinyls etc. Theres even a bus from 1925 for you to catch! Extremely high level open air museum. Definitely recommended, and if you speak English, you just have to ask if they speak it or not.

the museum is great especially the open air part, well done, with actors as well, it really feels if you would travel trough time. the only minus point, it's all in Swedish so very hard to understand for tourists which do not speak any Swedish

An exquisite museum explaining local tales and millennia of history of Jämtland. This is very good for children as it also have good exhibits and workshops. If you are interested about history and specifically about Caroliner, this place is also good. My favourite part is the Vikings. Everything is so well preserved and so educative, I spent a whole hour in just this section. It was so fun and interesting!
