The International Commission of Jurists, Swedish Section (ICJ-Sweden), is a non-profit, politically independent organisation which works to promote human rights and the rule of law in Sweden and internationally. We are among around 80 different national sections that support the work of the central International Commission of Jurists based in Geneva. On a national level, ICJ-Sweden works to ensure compliance with Sweden’s international and regional human rights obligations. We work to promote, protect and strengthen the rule of law in Sweden, the independence and accountability of the Swedish judiciary, the advancement in Sweden of lawyers' ethics and respect for the lawyer's role, and Sweden's adherence to fundamental rights such as equality before the law and non-discrimination. We also seek to promote access to justice in Sweden, and the right to a fair trial in Sweden. In furtherance of those goals we organise debates, seminars, workshops and training; publish reports and articles; observe legal proceedings; and perform a consultative role in the Swedish legislative process. Internationally, ICJ-Sweden initiates and develops projects in cooperation with local organisations with the purpose of advancing human rights and the rule of law. ICJ-Sweden is one of the nominating organisations for the Per Anger prize.
