East Vättern Scarp landscape is a part of a global network consisting of 651 (2015) biosphere reserves in 120 countries worldwide. The Biosphere area - a positive strength for East Vättern Scarp Landscape. In June 2012, we received the honour of becoming one of UNESCO´s biosphere areas. UNESCO is an UN organ focusing on education, science and culture. A biosphere area is supposed to be a model for sustainable development with three main focuses: - Contribute to preserving the cultural- and biodiversity. - Promote economic development and a social development which is ecological and social sustainable. - Support research, education, knowledge building and practice. The biosphere association and its operation constitute a platform for collaboration. The association ties together various stakeholders such as government agencies, farmers' organizations, the tourism industry, food producers and non-profit organizations and encourages commitment and pride in the area. We are a positive force, a catalyst in the development of East Vättern Scarp Landscape.
