Sätergläntan is an institute and meeting place for anyone insterested in crafts. We work to promote the idea that crafts and sloyd should have a natural place in everyone’s daily life. We offer full-time education programmes in sloyd and crafts – form and culture of three years. Students choose one of five streams: blacksmithing, wood, sewing, weaving and special craft techniques. The education programmes of Sätergläntan are under supervision of the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education. All programmes and courses are mainly taught in Swedish. Sätergläntan arranges a number of short education programmes for professional craftspeople as well as those with a hobby interest in crafts and sloyd. They run over 1 week on campus or as distance learning programmes of 5 or 10 week’s teaching over 6 or 12 months with regular meet-ups with teachers and fellow students. We also cooperate with various partners in order to offer education programmes that can complement or provide knowledge of a particular craft for organisations, businesses and other education providers. Sätergläntan is a driving force in the work to preserve while at the same time develop knowledge of and skills in crafts and sloyd. Our education programmes combine a genuine knowledge of the materials, techniques and tools that were used historically within crafts and sloyd while we apply them in a modern context with a bold playfulness. Collaboration between practicioners of different crafts, entrepreneurship and product development also play an important role in our education programmes. Sätergläntan engages skillful and experienced craftspeople, designers and artists, as well as other proficient people involved in creative activities, such as teachers, lecturers and inspirers.
