A nice visitor center in the middle of nature. Large free parking. Gifts shop offers a lot of locally handmade gifts from wood, wool... Museum offers a lot of indoor and outdoor activities for children. There is an authentic historical village with friendly staff. Possible stay overnight in car or camper van on the parking.

Wonderful museum and a collection of trails allowing to see the stone cravings. I did a 200 km detour on my way from Sweden to Norway to visit this place and was happy - they look just great in the real life. Also there’s a trail leading somewhere up in the mountain - I managed to find a pile of stones representing a market but there could be more interesting places to explore further. Great activity!

If you want to know something about rock carvings, this is the pace to see. There is a big collection about the techniques and formation of the carvings. You can go with a guide and there is a small open air museum which displays and iron age farmstead. You can have a coffee of small meal, toilets are clean and good, parking lot is big and good for a night in an RV. Start from here to see the other Carvings in the area.

Excellent museum introducing the history, meanings and significance of the UNESCO heritage listed Tanum rock carvings. There is also a reconstructed Bronze Age village outside the museum showing how buildings from the era look like. Admission and parking are free. The cafe was closed for the winter season, so plan your meals before or after the visit. (We had lunch at the nearby Tanum Shopping Centre, a 5 minute drive away.)
