Gränsö Slottsljusstöperi is a small family business that craft candles. Their showroom and candle craft factory is located at the foot of Kulbacken close to the Museum of Västervik while visiting you will see how the craftsmen Ragnar, Ebba, Pontus and Mårten von Geijer craft and forms traditional candles. Ragnar von Geijer learned the art from his mother Gudrun Karlgren, who in turn learned from her mother Helny Littmark who was married to a priest. Helny Littmark used to pick up and reuse pieces of burnt candles from her church. Today, her great grandchildren Pontus and Mårten von Geijer are the fourth generations of candle craftsmen. The candle craft factory is housed in a beautiful historical building from the early 1900s with candle factory and gift shop located under the same roof. The workshop is open towards the gift shop, which means you can take a look at the candle manufacturing during your visit. You will see how it works to craft candles in an old-fashioned way. The candles at the Gränsö Slottsjusstöperi are distinguished by their high-quality candle blend, their nice wicks, and unique craftsmanship. Each candle is created by hand with the utmost care and consideration. We welcome everyone to see our candle production. Note that if you are planning to view our production while being a large group of more than 15 persons a pre-ordered visit is required (You book that in advance). The candle craft factory and gift shop are centrally located in connection to an area which is called Kulbacken. A stroll to the top of Kulbacken where you, among other things, find the Museum of Västervik, as well as the lookout tower called Uno's Tower which gives an amazing view over our city and parts of the beautiful archipelago, is highly recommended.
